A Lebanese military investigative judge issued Monday an arrest warrant for a former lawmaker accused of smuggling a suspect involved in last year's Tripoli twin bombings to Syria, local media reported.
The arrest warrant noted that Ali Eid, the head of the Arab Democratic Party, was wanted for smuggling the suspect to Syria, according to the National News Agency.
Last August, two booby trapped cars exploded in front of Al Taqwa and Assalam mosques in Lebanon's northern port city of Tripoli, leaving 45 people killed and more than 500 others wounded.
Eid's supporters gathered in front of his residence in Hakr al- Dahiri village of the northern province of Akkar to protest the arrest warrant.
Last year, Eid did not heed the Lebanese judiciary's summons to appear in court for questioning, citing health issues.
