Indonesia and Jordan supported political approach as solution to end the ongoing bloody conflict in Syria that has claimed over 100,000 lives, official said here Wednesday.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met with visiting Jordanian King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein II at the State Palace on Wednesday, agreeing that political solution was the best way to end the dispute in the Middle East country.
"Basically, both head of states agreed that the political solution is unavoidable in the settlement of Syria problem, this is the essence," said Teuku Faizasyah, spokesman of Indonesian presidential office.
That was a week after US Secretary of State John Kerry called the international community to work toward a similar approach, a political solution, to Syria conflict.
According to UN report, the deadly conflict in Syria has caused a death toll of more than 100,000 since it erupted in March 2011. About 8 million others have been forced to flee home to escape the danger in the war-torn country, with 2 million of them seeking refuge in neighboring countries.
During the meeting President Yudhoyono and King Abdullah also discussed the potential to set up cooperation on defense, transfer of technology and intelligence as well as other business cooperation, said Teuku.
The King gave his commitment to help settled outstanding problems facing Indonesian migrant workers in Jordan, he said, referring to 40,000 Indonesian workers in the Middle East country.
