NATO defence ministers and counterparts from ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) partner nations on Thursday reviewed Afghan mission progress and NATO's relationship with Afghanistan after 2014 at the ongoing defence ministerial meeting.

"We are focused on completing ISAF, but we also need certainty and predictability to launch our new mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan forces after 2014," NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in a press release.

The ISAF mission will end on 31 Dec. this year. In the remaining 10 months, ISAF's work will focus on enabling Afghan security forces to take on full security responsibility for the country and providing logistical support for elections this year.

A two-day meeting of NATO defense ministers started on Wednesday in Brussels, with defense capabilities, Afghanistan and Ukraine on top of the agenda.

United Nations Secretary General's Special Representative for Afghanistan Jan Kubis and the European Union's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton also attended the meeting.
