Turkish government started to appoint new members of the key judicial body after a law on Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) entered into force on Friday.
Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdag has appointed five new deputy secretary-generals, one president and three vice presidents for the HSYK, replacing those who were dismissed when a draft law to restructure HSYK published on Thursday, the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported.
The law gives the minister of justice more rights over the judicial body, including appointing secretary-general of HSYK and members of the disciplinary board.
The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) immediately applied to the Constitutional Court on Friday for the annulment of the law.
The controversial law came amid the political row which the Turkish government was shaken-up by a graft probe. The move on judiciary is seen as a backlash by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan against the corruption and bribery investigation which led resignation of three ministers.
