Iran and Poland determined to boost their cooperation in diverse areas, said Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and his visiting Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski on Saturday.

Pointing to historic relations between the two countries, Zarif called for enhancement of political, cultural and economic relations.

There are many untapped capacities concerning the mutual relations, for instance in petrochemical and medical sectors, which could be explored, Zarif said during a joint press conference with Sikorski.

Iran and Poland can cooperate to boost their cultural and educational cooperation as well, including the exchange of university students, Zari added.

Iran and Poland signed a memorandum of understanding on pharmaceutical and trade cooperation during Poland foreign minister's visit to Iran's capital Tehran, Zarif said, expressing hope that Sikorski's visit would pave the way for expansion of relations between the two countries.

For his part, the Polish foreign minister also called for boost of ties between two countries, expressing optimism that Iran and European Union (EU) relations will improve quickly.

Iran and Poland made preliminary agreements over a number of issues, said Sikorski without elaboration.

The Polish foreign minister, who arrived in Tehran on Friday and was expected to stay here for three days, left Tehran on Saturday afternoon due to new developments in Crimea region of Ukraine, according to official IRNA news agency.
