Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erikat on Monday urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take into consideration the views of US President Barack Obama in order to reach a comprehensive peace that satisfies all parties.
"Netanyahu is sticking to his policies of settlement, assassination and imposing de facto realities," Erikat told state- run Voice of Palestine radio. "This simply cannot lead to peace."
On the eve of his meeting with Netanyahu in Washington, Obama said in an interview with Bloomberg news agency that time is running out for Israel to make peace with the Palestinians.
Obama also said if the current US-mediated peace talks fail, his country will not be able to protect Israel from an international fallout as Israel is facing a growing international divestment-and-boycott campaign.
He stressed that Netanyahu has a chance to resolve a long- running dispute and he should use it.
Upon his arrival in the United States on Monday, Netanyahu told Israel's Channel 2 that the Palestinians must demonstrate their desire to reach a solution.
Netanyahu added that he wants a good peace deal with the Palestinians, stressing he will stand up firmly for the vital interests of the state of Israel.
Meanwhile, Erikat said that he and the Palestinian head of intelligence agency will meet on Tuesday with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Washington to discuss the peace process.
His visit comes ahead of a meeting in Washington between Obama and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on March 17.
The US has been working hard since last July to get the Palestinians and the Israelis to agree on a framework plan for peace that could end their prolonged conflict.
But the peace talks, set to end this April, have not made any tangible progress on the ground so far.
