Islamic Hamas movement on Tuesday rejected an Egyptian court's ruling to ban all its activities on the Egyptian territory.

The movement, which has been ruling the Gaza Strip since 2007, said in an official statement that the ruling "is a political decision that targets the Palestinian people and their resistance against the Israeli occupation."

Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas spokesman in Gaza, said that the ruling is "a wrong decision." It's "part of an ongoing attempt to disfiguring the Palestinian resistance," and only "causes harms to Egypt and its role."

The spokesman added that the ruling is useless, because Hamas actually does not have bureaus or official offices in Cairo. " Hamas activities are only in the Palestinian territories," he said.

He declined to comment on the fate of the ties between Hamas and the new leadership in Egypt, but said "Hamas expects more unfair decisions against it while the siege that is imposed on the Gaza Strip is getting tightened."

Egypt's Al-Sharq el-Awsat news agency earlier said that a Cairo court had decided to ban the movement's activities and close all its offices in the country.

The ruling was made after an Egyptian lawyer applied for outlawing Hamas movement and banning all its activities in Egypt, because it causes harms to the national security of Egypt.

Ties between Hamas and Egypt became tense after former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was ousted. The Egyptian government has been fighting the Muslim Brotherhood, of which Hamas is an extension.

But analysts ruled out that the court's ruling would lead to complete severe ties between Hamas and Egypt, as Egypt would not carry out any more action against Hamas in the future.
