Iraq will hold an international conference to discuss means to eliminate terrorism, officials said on Tuesday.
The meeting, titled Baghdad First International Counter- Terrorism Conference, is scheduled on March 12 and 13, under the auspices of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's government.
Attenders will discuss issues of arming, supporting, funding terrorist groups and training camps in some countries.
Iraq has sent invitations to countries and world organizations, including the United Nations, the Arab League, the European Union, the African Union, the Organization of Islamic Conference, as well as the Interpol and the permanent member states of the UN Security Council. Cooperation agreements are expected to be signed during the meetings.
Iraq has been fighting terrorism for years. Last year was the bloodiest since the sectarian violence began to decrease in 2008. A total of 8,868 Iraqis, including 7,818 civilians and police personnel, were killed. The Iraqi government has frequently warned and complained of the spillover of the ongoing violence in neighboring Syria.
