Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has expressed solidarity with efforts by Russian President Vladimir Putin to "restore stability and security to Ukraine," the official SANA news agency reported on Thursday.

In a letter to Putin, Assad stressed his support for Putin's " wise political leadership and commitment to the international legitimacy... in the face of all illegal coup attempts" against the Ukraine administration, SANA said.

Assad also expressed his confidence in Putin's "rational and peace-loving" approach to establishing a world order that supports stability and fights terrorism and radicalism.
