A Boeing 787 dreamliner run by Japan Airlines Co. (JAL) made an emergency landing in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Sunday due to oil leak, the carrier said, with no injuries reported.
The flight, carrying 171 people, was bound for San Francisco from Haneda airport in Tokyo and one of its engine was shut down by the captain while flying over the Pacific Ocean after cockpit indicators showed a drop in engine lubricant pressure, according to Japan's Kyodo News Agency.
The jet diverted to Honolulu after detecting the error and landed safely at around 8 am Japan Time, or 1 pm Saturday local time.
The company found an oil leak during checkup after landing, adding none of its Boeing 787s has suffered such problem ever before, said Kyodo.
The dreamliner was the same one on which a battery fire occurred last year at Boston's Logan International Airport and led to the grounding of Boeing 787 dreamliners worldwide for months.
