Israeli soldiers on Monday evening shot dead a Palestinian man who the military said hurled stones at Israeli vehicles in the West Bank, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson confirmed to Xinhua.

"During an ambush to catch stone throwers near Beit El, an IDF force opened fire toward a Palestinian who threw stones at an Israeli car and bus," the IDF said in a statement, adding it is investigating the circumstance of the incident.

Local media reported the Palestinian man was shot to the head and died at a Ramallah hospital in the West Bank.

This is the second time in a day that Israeli security forces shoot dead a Palestinian.

Earlier on Monday a Jordanian judge, originally a Palestinian from Nablus, was shot to death by Israeli security forces at the Allenby Bridge crossing between the West Bank and Jordan.

There have been contradicting accounts of what exactly happened at the terminal, with the Israeli military charging the victim tried to snatch a soldier's weapon and was shot in retaliation.

A Palestinian employee at the crossing point, however, told Xinhua that the Israeli soldiers "immediately opened fire at the man as soon as he came out of a bus that brought him from the Jordanian side to the Palestinian side in the West Bank throughout the crossing point."
