Two people were killed on Saturday during the clashes between the rival neighborhoods of Sunni Bab al- Tabbaneh and Alawite Jabal Mohsen in Lebanon's northern port city of Tripoli, rising the death toll to 11 and the wounded to more than 55 in three-day fighting.
A local security source told Xinhua that a Syrian national was killed by a sniper while another man was killed and his wife injured while trying to leave the area.
It added that fighting eased on Saturday morning as intermittent gunshots were heard in the city, but tension rose in the early hours of the evening and fighting resumed on all front lines in the city.
Heavy fighting was witnessed overnight throughout the front lines and machine guns and Rocket Propelled Grenades were used in the clashes, which forced residents close to the fighting scenes to flee the area.
Clashes between Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen increased since an uprising broke out in Syria against President Bashar Assad in March 2011.
The Sunni Bab al-Tabbaneh residents back the rebellion, while the Alawite residents of Jabal Mohsen support the Syrian government.
