The Philippine government downgraded the travel warning for Thailand on Monday after the country lifted its state of emergency imposed about two months ago to quell mounting civil unrest.

"In view of the Thai government's decision to lift the state of emergency in Bangkok and surrounding areas effective March 19, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario lowered the crisis alert level from 2 to 1," a Department of Foreign Affairs statement said.

The 60-day state of emergency was enforced on Jan. 22 amid weeks of violence between government forces and Thai protesters.

There is also no ban on the deployment of overseas Filipino workers under alert level 1, the DFA said.
