All the commissioners of the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) presented on Tuesday their resignations to the parliament over political interference, the IHEC said in a statement.
"The members of the commissioners' council decided to present their resignations collectively to the head of the commission and are waiting for his approval if pressures continue on their work due to the conflict of political parties," the statement said.
It said that great pressures have been practiced on the commission by the dispute between the legislative (parliament) and the judiciary authorities, as both issued conflicted decisions interpreting articles from the elections law related to conditions of banning candidates from participating in April 30 parliamentary elections.
The commissioners said they took the decision of resignation because they don't want to be part of such a conflict and to preserve the independence of the commission, according to the statement.
