ENERGY Week 2014 opens in Brunei

Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah launched Monday the ENERGY Week 2014 at the BRIDEX Exhibition Center organized by the Energy Department at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The five-day ENERGY Week 2014, with over 70 companies participated this year, carried the theme "Sustainable Energy for Brunei Darussalam's Prosperity," the event is aimed to promote the Energy White Paper Brunei Darussalam, as the Brunei Oil & Gas Book titled "You Can Make A Difference (Brunei Oil and Gas: Where Opportunities Await You)."

In conjunction with the event, Energy Department also launched the Energy Industry Competency Exhibition, Brunei Maritime Academy Exhibition, as well as an Energy Sector job and career fair where the Energy Week 2014 aims to promote awareness among the community about the importance of energy sources, and the need to conserve them. The event also involved students and youth in the energy industry allowing them to gain experience and social skills when interact with the public.

The Youth Energy Dialogue will also take place on March 25, where youth will be provided the opportunity to discuss energy- related matters with the Minister of Energy at the PMO. Meanwhile, issues on the latest developments in business opportunities, technology, regulations and business initiatives will be discussed during the Local Business Development Forum, on March 26.

Other activities lined up are the Brunei National Energy Research Institute (BNERI) Conference, during which international energy experts from several agencies have been invited to speak at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club on March 25.

A Local Business Development (LBD) Forum will also take place on March 26 at the BRIDEX Conference Hall to discuss issues on the latest developments in business opportunities, technology, regulations and business initiatives.

Meanwhile, petrochemical giant China's Hengyi Industries has also participated in the Energy Week 2014 that showcased an interactive booth displays representing company profile, local business development activities, Universiti Brunei Darussalam & Zhejiang University scholarship program and products display amongst others. There was also a video fly through simulation of the refinery and a huge model of Pulau Muara Besar highlighting the different phases of development of Hengyi's Petrochemical plant.
