Au Hoi-lam: My Father is Over the Ocean. Shanghai Postscript

Established in Hong Kong, Osage gallery operated a gallery in Shanghai from 2007 to 2011, dedicated to contemporary Asian art and ideas. Three years later, it has reopened Osage Shanghai with an exhibition featuring Hong Kong-based artist Au Hoi-lam. Au, who graduated form the Chinese University of Hong Kong, works within the locus of her own personal experiences. Entitled Au Hoi-lam: My Father is Over the Ocean. Shanghai Postscript, the exhibition will focus on the artist's memorial to her father, a customs officer who passed away in 2012, with installations she created from objects of his father's life, such as parts of a quilt and a bunk bed.

Conceal, Unveil

Conceal, Unveil is Hu Xiangcheng's second solo exhibition at Shanghai Gallery of Art. The title refers to the artist's probe into the truth. A graduate of the prestigious Shanghai Theatre Academy, Hu spent time living in Tibet, Japan and Africa before settling down in Shanghai. In his early career, he focused on realism and abstractionism but he later shifted his attention to investigating the origin of plastic arts. He also experiments with the interaction between art and nature. His painting and installation works have been exhibited at various international exhibitions.

Zhang Hai'er: Portrait Nu

In French, Nu means nude photos. The word has a similar pronunciation with the Chinese word for female. The solo exhibition of photographer Zhang Hai'er features his portraits of women taken from 1987 to 2010. Having kept a low profile, Zhang's works are usually exhibited overseas, and he is also a photojournalist covering both hard news and fashion. Zhang is best known for photographing "bad girls" and nudes. "Bad girls," in his eyes, possess "a spirit of freedom and independence."

ECAL Photography

This exhibition features selected photo works by students from École cantonale d'art de Lausanne (ECAL, also known as University of Art and Design Lausanne). This century-old Swiss art institute has nurtured thousands of talented artists and is now one of the top art schools in the world. The organizers are also hosting a photo contest for up-and-coming local photographers on March 21. Critics, photo editors and curators will visit the exhibition and pick the best works from local artists. The photo album of ECAL Photography is also available at the venue.

Contingency Plans: or, Living with Unstable Grounds

This exhibition looks at how the unexpected forces of nature shape landscapes and human lives. Entitled Contingency Plans: or, Living with Unstable Grounds, the exhibition draws on understudied cases from overlooked places through 19 case studies assembled by over 20 contributors. Each case study is based on an unexpected terrestrial event. Examples include a landslide in Hong Kong, persistent desertification in China, volcanic eruptions in Indonesia, the seepage of mining waste in West Papua, and the gradual accumulation of the surface of the Earth in the UK.

Shanghai Housewares

This exhibition features 60 household items from 120 objects included in the book of the same name by Shanghainese designer Zhou Qi. Inspired by examples of exquisite local craftsmanship on the edge of extinction, Zhou interviewed 10 local artisans and collected more than 100 everyday objects which were commonly seen in the 1980s and 1990s. Published last year, her book reflects the conflict between rapid industrial development and disappearing local craftsmanship. The exhibits on display include a tangpozi (copper bed warmer), a rabbit lantern, a kongzhu (Chinese yo-yo) and an abacus. The Chinese Shadows by Francesco Clemente

Born in 1952 in Naples, Italian contemporary artist Francesco Clemente will hold his second solo exhibition in the city this month. During his first visit to China, Clemente created a dynamic series of 13 unique hand-painted monotypes, utilizing watercolor, gouache and ink on traditional Chinese paper mounted to silk. For the upcoming The Chinese Shadows exhibition, Clemente has created a cohesive, sequential body of works that address the metaphysical or mythological self and the ancient Chinese philosophical principles of the universe: yin (associated with the female, earth, dark, and cold) and yang (male, heaven, heat, and light) as a composite of the human spirit.

Stand-up Comedy Presented by Lauphilos

Named Duo Da P Shi'er (literally, what's the big deal), the new show by local stand-up comedy club Lauphilos is inviting city dwellers to look at the problems in their life from a different perspective. Inspired by their own daily issues, five comedians will take turns addressing the headaches of urban life. Dingding, a well-known DJ from Shanghai East Radio, will be one of the comedians on March 29.

The Black Dahlia Murder China Tour

Founded in 2000, The Black Dahlia Murder is an American metal band from Michigan. Their name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder case of aspiring young actress Elizabeth Short. The band's lineup features vocalist Trevor Strnad, guitarists Brian Eschbach and Ryan Knight, drummer Alan Cassidy, and bassist Max Lavelle. The Shanghai gig is The Black Dahlia Murder's second leg of their Chinese tour.

Bruno Mars The Moonshine Jungle Tour

American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars is coming to Shanghai for the first time for a one-night concert. The 28-year-old has won two Grammy Awards - Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 2011 and Best Pop Vocal Album this year - and has been nominated 18 times. Mars is one of the most successful male solo singers in the world. The Hawaiian-born musician recently preformed his first Super Bowl halftime show on February 2. His hit singles include "Just the Way You Are," "Grenade," "Locked Out of Heaven," and "Treasure," which all topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts.

Gala 2014 Concert in Shanghai

Set up in 2004 in Beijing, Gala has become an acclaimed rock band among both critics and fans in China.
