Fans have already bought 2.56 million tickets for this year's World Cup, football's governing body FIFA said Thursday.

Demand has been highest among Brazilians, who have bought more than a million tickets for the June 12-July 13 tournament.

Next are US fans with 154,000, followed by Australia (40,000), England (38,000) and Colombia (33,000).

The current sales period ends on April 1. A final phase will begin on April 15, offering tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.

According to FIFA no tickets remain for any of the 13 matches in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

Other matches to have sold out are Germany-Portugal (Salvador, June 16), Italy-Uruguay (Natal, June 24), England-Italy (Manaus, June 14).
