Cambodia will be suffering from the impact of a depression that causes occasional rains with thunder, lightning and strong gusts of wind from April 3 to 6, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Lim Kean Hor said Wednesday.

"Such occasional rains will occur in the afternoons of these days in 22 out of the kingdom's 25 cities and provinces," he said in a statement. "The ministry would like to appeal to local authorities and residents to be extra-vigilant, especially in the afternoons when the sky's going to rain, in order to avoid any possible dangers."

The statement came after a torrential rain with strong winds and lightning hit 5 provinces on Tuesday, leaving two men dead, one injured, and about 100 houses destroyed, Keo Vy, spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management, said Wednesday.

"The two people were killed by lightning during torrential rain," he told Xinhua.

Occasional rains usually happen in hot season between March and May. April is always the hottest month of the year when temperatures start to climb to 39 or 40 degrees Celsius.
