An 7.8-magnitude earthquake jolted sea off north coast of Chile at 10:43 am Thursday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter was monitored at 20.4 degrees south latitude and 70.1 degrees west longitude, with a focal depth of 20 kilometers, the center said.
The tsunami early warning center under China's State Oceanic Administration said the earthquake is likely to cause tsunami in the areas near the epicenter, but it would not have disastrous influence on China.
