US President Barack Obama is planning to visit Asian nations including Japan and South Korea, which are embroiled in historical and territorial disputes with each other, in late April, but no detailed schedule for the trip has yet been provided, reported Yonhap News on Wednesday.
Obama will stay in South Korea for less than two days, but will spend three days in Japan, Yonhap News quoting an unnamed diplomat.
"Consultations on Obama's itinerary are in the final stage. He is expected to make an overnight stay in Seoul," according to an "informed source" in the Yonhap News.
It would be Obama's fourth trip to Seoul since he took office in 2009.
Obama is expected to be welcomed as a state guest in Japan, and will be the first US president to receive such treatment since Bill Clinton in 1996, reported The Japan Times News.
According to the report, during a meeting with Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Obama will discuss the allied nation relationship with Japan and the North Korean missiles issue.
The "comfort women" issue of wartime sex slavery, which has caused tension in Japan-South Korea relations, will also be on the agenda.
The US government is still trying to figure out how to balance the trip to South Korea and Japan on the schedule, The Japan Times reported.
