The Israeli military conducted airstrike on five targets in the Gaza Strip early Sunday in retaliation to continued rocket fire towards southern Israel.

Among the targets were four "terror sites" in northern Gaza and an additional such site in southern Gaza, the army said in a statement, adding that pilots reported direct hits.

One of the targets was a concealed rocket launching pad, Israel's Ynet news website quoted Palestinian sources as saying.

The retaliatory airstrike, the second in three days, was "precise and based on intelligence," said Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, who added that Israel would not "tolerate Hamas rocket terrorism."

The strike came hours after a rocket fell in an open area near the coastal city of Ashkelon Saturday evening. The rocket fired on Saturday marked the fifth projectiles from the Palestinian enclave since Thursday. No injuries or damage were reported.

Early on Friday, Israeli jets struck five militant targets in Gaza, reportedly including Hamas outposts, after three rockets fell near Sderot, an Israeli town that has been hit by thousands of projectiles over the years.

The army reported that more than 130 rockets had been launched from Gaza since last month, 82 of which had struck Israeli territory. The figures included a three-day rocket attack initiated by Islamic Jihad in mid-March, in which 70 projectiles were fired and five of them intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome anti-rocket system.
