Brazil won the second point of the series against Ecuador in the Group 1 Americas stage of the Davis Cup World Group play-offs, following the victory by Brazilian Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares in doubles.

Brazilians prevailed 2-6, 0-6 and 2-6 over Giovanni Lapentti and Gonzalo Escobar in Ecuador's southwest coastal city Guayaquil.

The first point of the series was won by Rogerio Dutra Silva from the Brazilian team, who defeated Ecuador's Julio-Cesar Campozano 4-6, 6-2, 4-6 and 4-6.

Ecuador tied 1-1 after Brazilian Guilherme Clezar left the game against Ecuador's Emilio Gomez with a thigh injury in the third set.

The series will be set on Sunday, with the singles matches to be played between Emilio Gomez and Rogerio Dutra Silva, as well as between Julio-Cesar Campozano and anyone designated to replace Guilherme Clezar.

The winner of the series will play between September 12 and 14 in order to ascend to the World Group play-offs.
