Iran and Oman started joint rescue and relief naval drills in the Sea of Oman on Monday, Press TV reported.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran's fleet, consisting of Alvand destroyer, Shamshir warship, Bushehr logistic ship, Navy's AB212 helicopter and Safir 3 carrier, is attending the maneuver," said Siavash Jareh, Iranian Navy's deputy commander for operations rear admiral.
Iran's rescue and relief fleet, which docked on Friday in Oman's capital Muscat's Port Sultan Qaboos, started the one-day joint drills with Oman on Monday, Jareh said. After the drills the Iranian fleet will return to the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas.
Also on Monday the 11th meeting of Iran-Oman joint military committee was held in Muscat in the presence of two countries' high-ranking military commanders, according to the report. They discussed ways to improve bilateral military cooperation.
Iran and Oman have so far held several naval relief and rescue drills to enhance readiness for providing relief services and rescue operations, as well as improving the level of regional cooperation and exchanging experience.
Meanwhile a Pakistani fleet of warships, which docked in southern Iran, will hold a joint drill with the Iranian Navy in the strategic Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday.
