Ecuador appoints new military chiefs

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa has renewed the leadership of the Armed Forces, the presidency said on its website Monday.

Correa appointed Luis Garzon, Commander of the Army, as the chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, replacing Leonardo Barreiro who fulfilled the two-year term.

The president appointed the Director of the Joint Operations Command, Carlos Obando, as Commander of the Army, replacing Jorge Pea.

Meanwhile, the Chief of the Staff of the Ecuadorian Air Force (FAE), brigadier general Raul Banderas was nominated as Commander of the FAE, replacing Enrique Velasco.
