US Under Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller will travel to Japan and China for a series of meetings on arms control and security issues, the US State Department said Thursday.

The under secretary for arms control and international security will meet with Japanese officials in Tokyo from Thursday to Friday, before attending the Nonproliferation and Disarmament Initiative Ministerial meeting in Japan's Hiroshima on Saturday, the State Department said in a statement.

From Monday to Tuesday, Gottemoeller will take part in a disarmament conference in Beijing, which is the latest in a series of meetings between the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council aimed at furthering the disarmament goals laid out in the 2010 Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference Action Plan, said the statement.

During her trip in Beijing, Gottemoeller will also discuss regional and international security issues with her Chinese counterparts, it added.
