A massive fight broke out between two groups of more than 50 pilgrims to a shrine in Xiamen, East China's Fujian Province after it became too crowded to pray on Friday, Strait Herald reported.
Two were hospitalized and six others suffered minor injuries after the two sides scrambled for prayer spots at the shrine of Wu Tao, a renowned doctor from the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
Over 10 of the devout pilgrims had armed themselves with sticks used to carry Buddha figures to the shrine, according to local police.
An officer ultimately resorted to firing a warning shot to break up to brawl. The pilgrims have since returned to their respective villages in Zhangzhou.
