A murder suspect from Hunan Province who eluded authorities for nearly a decade not only changed his name, but also earned tens of millions while on the lam.

Yueyang police apprehended Xing Xiao, 41, about 900 kilometers south in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province on April 10, ending a 10-year search that spanned five provinces.

Xing is one among six charged with attacking a group at an entertainment center in Yueyang, Hunan Province on June 26, 2004, which ended with one dead and another severely injured.

During his time as a fugitive, he found a job at a casino in Macao, where he was eventually promoted to public relations manager. He then fled to Vietnam and remained there for half a year.

Xing later settled down in Shenzhen under a new identity and opened his own investment company.

The owner of two houses and a BMW, Xing boasts a net worth of tens of millions of yuan (millions of dollars).

He told police life on the run nearly drove him crazy.
