A draft of Beijing's tobacco control regulations will be published to solicit public opinion between April 12 and 30. According to the draft, smoking will be completely banned in the city's roofed structures, the Beijing Evening News reported.

According to the draft, smoking will be banned in indoor public places, workplaces, and on public transportation vehicles, as well as outdoor areas such as sports fields at schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions. However, smoking areas can be designated at outdoor areas in medical institutions, scenic spots, parks, railway stations and bus stations.

The fine for smoking in non-smoking areas will increase from 10 yuan ($1.61) to 50 yuan. If the violator refuses to stop smoking, the fine can be further raised to 200 yuan.
