A former lawmaker from Northeast China has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for embezzlement and fraud after his crimes were exposed when a journalist accused him of forcing her into sexual relationship, local authorities said Tuesday.

Sun Dejiang, former general manager of the Shuangcheng City Industry Corporation and deputy of Shuangcheng's People's Congress in Heilongjiang Province, was charged with defrauding pension funds and embezzling public money, according to the Shuangcheng People's Court.

According to the court, he helped workers in a brewery illegally falsify retirement claims in 2002 and defrauded pension funds of more than 70,000 yuan (about 11,000 US dollars). He also embezzled over 108,000 yuan in public money from 2009 to 2010, the court said.

Sun's crimes were exposed in November 2012 when a female journalist wrote a microblog post claiming that Sun had forced her into maintaining a sexual relationship with him.

She said Sun forced her to have sex with him even when she was seven months pregnant. She also accused him of abusing his power for personal gain.

After an investigation launched by a local disciplinary watchdog, Sun was removed from the Party and posts and arrested in January 2013.
