Galanz Group, a household appliance maker, said on Weibo Tuesday that its employees' riotous behavior in its factory complex in Zhongshan, South China's Guangdong Province, was due to drunkenness and did not cause any injury, in response to a media report that its workers had rioted over salaries.

News portal sina.com reported Tuesday that about 2,000 Galanz employees protested in the factory Monday over their salaries being lower than what Galanz promised in recruitment.

The company's president then came to the complex to apologize to the employees, the news portal said.

Before dawn on Monday, when the gathering took place, several drunk employees made noise and disturbed others who were sleeping, leading to a gathering of 200 employees in the dormitory area, a Galanz statement said.

Galanz said a few employees smashed some vending machines and grocery shops and no one got hurt, according to the statement.

The factory area was back to normal before 7:30 am on Monday, the statement said.
