Units of Afghan security forces during operations against Taliban militants in the northern Badakhshan province on Tuesday night killed a local commander and injured four others, spokesman for the provincial government Ahmad Naved Frotan said Wednesday.

"Acting upon intelligence report, the security forces raided a Taliban hideout in Baharak district on late Tuesday night, killing a local Taliban commander named Qari Mahfuzullah and wounding four others," Frotan told Xinhua.

There were no casualties on the security personnel, he said.

Militancy and conflicts usually gain momentum in spring and summer, commonly known as fighting season in Afghanistan.
