Profile: Madagascar PM Kolo Roger

Madagascar's Prime Minister Laurent Roger Kolo Christophe (Kolo Roger) took function on Wednesday with a power transfer between him and the outgoing Prime Minister Omer Beriziky.

Based on the official statement from the PM office, the following is the introduction of the Malagasy Prime minister:

Laurent Roger Kolo Christophe (Kolo Roger), born on Sept. 3, 1943 in Belo Tsiribihina Morondava, southwest Madagascar. His father from Morondava was an official in Post office while her mother was native of Toliara, southwest of the island country.

He is the brother of an upper house parliament member from 2002 to 2009 called Kolo rolland.

Married with Zakia Katoun, he is father of three children.

Kolo Roger was graduated as doctor after studying in Antananarivo University from 1970 to 1977. Then he continued his study in surgery in the hospital of Mulhouse in Strasbourg France from 1978 to 1980.

He continued again his study at the Geneva Medical Faculty from 1980 to 1987.

He was the clinical chief of Radiology and medical nuclear in the cantonal hospital of Fribourg, Switzerland from 1987 to 1992, and then he became the medical director of another institute of radiology in Switzerland from 1992 to 1994.

He opened his own private center of radiology in Geneva in 1997, his second private center of radiology in Jura Switzerland in 1998 before opening his third private center of radiology in Geneva in 2001.

Kolo roger wanted to participated in the presidential election, but his candidacy was refused by Madagascar's special electoral court in August 2013 because Madagascar's electoral code stipulates that any candidates should reside six months before applying to the presidential race,while he didn't.

He proposed Hery Rajaonarimampianina to replace him at the presidential race. The later was elected Madagascar's president in an election on Dec. 20, 2013.

Kolo Roger did not have a political party before being candidate to the presidential race, but he became right hand of Hery Rajaonarimampianina and became one of leaders of "Hery Vaovaon'i Madagasikara," (HVM), which means new force of Madagascar, the political party of the president.

Kolo roger was appointed prime minister two months and 16 days exactly after Hery Rajaonarimampianina took position as president of Madagascar on Jan. 25, 2014. He succeeded Omer Beriziky, who was appointed on Oct. 29, 2011.

The president selected him among the 18 names proposed by parliament members. According to the president, 93 out of 151 members of parliament proposed his name to be Prime minister.
