Visiting Syrian opposition leader Ahmad Jarba said in Beijing on Wednesday that his organization is willing to participate in the third round of peace talks of the Geneva II conference, should the Syrian government show sincerity.

Jarba, the head of the National Coalition of Syrian Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, made the remarks during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing.

"This is the first time for us to visit China and we have pinned our hopes on it," Jarba told Wang.

He said he appreciated China's efforts in promoting the solution of the Syrian crisis, which has entered the fourth year and brought suffering to Syrian people and dealt a huge blow to regional peace and stability.

"The current situation in Syria has reached a new critical moment," Wang said.

"The international community has been expecting a third round of peace talks and China would like to contribute," he said.

Calling the visit of the national coalition "a good opportunity", Wang said the two sides could have an in-depth discussion on the Syrian issue.

He said the top priority for all parties of Syria is to take the whole picture of the nation into consideration, ceasefire and stop violence as soon as possible, and push forward an inclusive political transition.

He also called for the comprehensive implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2139 adopted in February which focused on humanitarian access to besieged and hard-to-reach areas, including across conflict lines and borders, and the expansion of humanitarian relief operations.

Jarba said the national coalition considered the political solution as the best way to end the Syrian crisis, adding that he and his organization firmly opposed terrorism.

Wang said that on the Syrian crisis, China has paid attention to the comprehensive and long-term interests of the Syrian people, safeguarded peace and stability of the Middle East, and stuck to the basic norms and principles of international relations that developing countries especially small and middle-sized nations have relied upon.

Jarba said that China, as one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, has maintained good relations with all parties of the crisis. He said he hoped China could play an important role in promoting the political settlement, so as to reach a balanced resolution.

Also on Wednesday, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming held talks with Jarba.

Jarba and his delegation arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for a four-day visit to China. During their stay in Beijing, they will also meet with Chinese analysts and scholars.
