Vietnam on Tuesday launched the Vietnam Fisheries Resources Surveillance force to monitor local fishermen and protect the country's territorial waters in disputed parts of the South China Sea, according to a Wall Street Journal report on Wednesday.

The fisheries surveillance force will patrol, monitor and protect fisheries resources, assist fishermen in distress and maintain maritime security.
