Ukraine crisis should be resolved within "international law and through dialogue," Turkish president said on Wednesday.

"We hope international law should not be ignored and territorial integrity of the countries should be respected," Turkish President Abdullah Gul said Wednesday at a press conference with visiting Latvian President Andris Berzins.

Russia is an important country of the region, said the Turkish President, adding that demography of the people were mixed in the disputed region.

"We attach importance to diplomacy for resolution of the problem taking account of these facts," Gul stated.

Berzins, for his part, said the North Atlantic Treaty Organization should play an important role in resolving the crisis of Ukraine and he believed that the alliance would have a consensus on "joint defense" within its members.
