"British Style" has always been a unique icon in the fashion industry, and recently British buyer shop GMT London invited some 20 time-honored menswear fashion brands from the UK to display their stylish designs in town. Among them are coats, luggage, footwear, notebooks, umbrellas and spectacles. Meanwhile, on April 11 and 12, hair salon J Eleven will join GMT London to present a live show on how to shape hairstyles for gentlemen from 2 pm to 4 pm at Xintiandi; while on April 19 and 20, visitors can see a series of photographs related to James Bond movies.

Outside Within

This exhibition will feature new works of oil on canvas by the established Chinese artist collective Tamen, composed of Lai Shengyu and Yang Xiaogang. The solo exhibition explores new landscapes that verge on metaphysical discourses on identity, context, and cultural knowledge. The artworks present vast open scenes with a sense of the philosophical, while displaying the same eerie serenity and complex thresholds that have come to define Tamen's aesthetic. Outside Within challenges perspective and boundaries.

Chen Xiaoyun Solo Exhibition

Celebrated Chinese artist Chen Xiaoyun will have a solo exhibition entitled Twenty-one Poems of Lenin at the main space of ShanghART Gallery. The upcoming show features a series of Chen's recent works including sculptures, paintings and photographs. Works on display follow the artist's poetic narrative style. Born in 1971 in Hubei Province, Chen now works and lives in Beijing. He has exhibited extensively at both home and abroad.

Shanghai Housewares

This exhibition features 60 household items from 120 objects included in the book of the same name by Shanghainese designer Zhou Qi. Inspired by examples of exquisite local craftsmanship on the edge of extinction, Zhou interviewed 10 local artisans and collected more than 100 everyday objects which were commonly seen in the 1980s and 1990s. Published last year, her book reflects the conflict between rapid industrial development and disappearing local craftsmanship.

Contingency Plans: or, Living with Unstable Grounds

This exhibition looks at how the unexpected forces of nature shape landscapes and human lives. Entitled Contingency Plans: or, Living with Unstable Grounds, the exhibition draws on understudied cases from overlooked places through 19 case studies assembled by over 20 contributors. Each case study is based on an unexpected terrestrial event. Examples include a landslide in Hong Kong, persistent desertification in China, volcanic eruptions in Indonesia, the seepage of mining waste in West Papua, and the gradual accumulation of the surface of the Earth in the UK.

On Stage

Gala 2014 Concert

Set up in 2004 in Beijing, Gala has become an acclaimed rock band among both critics and fans in China. Their albums include the English Young for You released in 2004, which highlighted the unbounded enthusiasm of youth, and the Chinese Zhui Meng Chi Zi Xin in 2011 that has encouraged numerous people with its touching and uplifting lyrics. Crowned as one of the best rock bands in China, Gala is embarking on its 2014 China tour to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
