Every April marks the beginning of the Forbidden City Concert Hall's (FCCH) Early Music Season in Beijing. This year's event kicked off at the FCCH on Sunday with a solo concert by US harpsichord maestro Raymond Erickson, who performed works from Bach, Rameau and Couperin. At a press conference for the event, Erickson explained that while the harpsichord has enjoyed a long history in Europe, there are only a few hundred left in the world now, with even fewer people who know how to play them.

Meanwhile, this Sunday will see an important performance from the Versailles Baroque Music Centre: Love of a Stepmother. The show - an important part of the ongoing 2014 Festival Croisements, the biggest French cultural event in the world - is a tribute marking the 250th anniversary of the death of French composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. During the show singers and puppets will perform around a magnificent miniature baroque theater.
