Just days after the Pakistani Taliban ended their temporary ceasefire with the government, the group's spokesman on Friday warned that some forces could target public places.

The 40-day ceasefire by the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan expired on April 10.

They had earlier declared a month-long ceasefire on March 1st and later extended it for ten more days.

The government had also suspended airstrikes against the Taliban hideouts in Waziristan tribal regions.

"I want to warn the government that some forces could carry out attacks while taking advantage of our refusal to extend the ceasefire," the TTP spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid, told reporters in Waziristan tribal region.

"The Taliban will not be responsible for attacks in the public places. However we have the right to launch attacks in self- defence," he said.

Defending the TTP decision not to extend their ceasefire, he said the government "continued operations" against the Taliban despite the ceasefire. He also said the government did not give positive response to the Taliban's "small demands" -- release of the non-combatant prisoners and giving them back some areas in South Waziristan that had been under their control before the security forces conducted major air and ground offensive in 2009.

The Taliban want giving them what they call a "peace zone" that could also be a possible venue for the future talks.

However the government has ruled out possibility of giving an area to the Taliban.

"The Taliban leadership was of the view that how can the government accept difficult demands in the future if it cannot give a positive response to very simple and initial demands," Shahidullah Shahid said.

He reiterated the Taliban desire to continue the dialogue process but said it now depends on the government how it bridges the trust gap.

"We have only ended the ceasefire but have not shut the doors of dialogue," the TTP spokesman said, adding the TTP will be ready to take steps if the government makes some progress on their demands.
