"To preserve history as much as possible, our protective restoration will no longer involve climbing onto the roof and changing the tiles."

Shan Jixiang, curator of the Palace Museum, said this at a press conference. He said that there won't be any more major restoration projects at the museum, but rather the current structure will be protected. The current protective restoration project was approved last April at a cost of 440 million yuan ($70 million). The seven parts of the overhaul include construction in the northern part of the museum, renovating the underground relics storehouse, infrastructure construction, installing a relics monitoring system building, constructing a safety system building, quake proofing the relics, and the restoration of antiquities.
