One man died and ten other people sustained injuries during Easter celebrations across Greece, local police said on Monday.

A 25-year-old man died and a 23-year-old was slightly injured by gunfire during an Easter celebration gathering on the island of Crete in southern Greece. A 40-year-old man who opened fire in the air, as per local customs, has been arrested.

In a separate incident, two men have been detained for the use of fireworks who caused the injuries of a total of seven people -- three American tourists, two Cypriots and two Greeks during an Easter celebration gathering on the island of Santorini on Sunday.

Moreover, a 25-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries in an Athens hospital following the use of makeshift firecrackers in a central Greece village. His 12-year-old brother was slightly injured in the same incident.

The use of fireworks to celebrate the resurrection of Christ is a centuries-old tradition in Greece, but almost each year the country reports casualties from accidents.
