Japanese electronics giant Hitachi has revealed that it has developed the world's fastest elevator, the first of which will be installed in a high-rise building in China.

The company said that the recorded speed of the new lift is 1,200 meters per minute.

Translated to our practical minds, this just means that the lift can do 95 floors in roughly 43 seconds.

Hitachi's new elevator is set to be installed in 111-story, 530-meter Guangzhou CTF Financial Center, which opens its doors for business in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou around 2016.

The engineers and developers at Hitachi said that they were able to give optimum high speed to the elevator via a very powerful motor and by using cables that are 30 percent lighter.

Hitachi also said that the elevator uses twice the normal amount of vibration control devices to ensure that the lift's passengers are comfortable.

The record-holder before Hitachi was an elevator installed in a high-rise in Taiwan that travels 1,010 meters per minute.
