Uncle Sam not blood brother of Japan

Japan is the first destination of the US President Barack Obama's ongoing Asia visit. Tokyo has attached great importance to Obama's arrival, which Japan believes will bolster its efforts to go against China. Shinzo Abe, Japanese Prime Minister, and his peers have probably overestimated Obama's intentions.

It's for sure that Obama is making a "comfort visit" to allies. But the authority of Uncle Sam has been overly amplified. Japan having such an illusion that East Asia cannot do without the US probably resulted from a lack of confidence.

No matter what intentions Obama holds, this four-nation trip is nothing but an ordinary Asia visit. It will hardly generate impacts upon the geopolitics of East Asia, nor will it make any substantial changes to Washington's relations with countries in this region.

Japan is becoming paranoid about some trivial issues and nonessential details in the Asia-Pacific area. But China is growing more self-possessed in front of Japan. This delicate change is what really matters.

China's Asia policy is taking shape in a stable process. The country is moving more proactively and concerns about strategic failure are vanishing.

China knows Washington's rebalancing to Asia will hardly produce a subversive effect. Because of the wishes of both leaderships and the demands of the age, Beijing and Washington are left with no other options but to develop a new type of relations. Cold War 2.0 between China and the US is nothing but a joke.

China is facing more provocations from Japan and the Philippines which are endorsed and backed by the US. But Washington's attitude is not a decisive element in these disputes.

This close tug-of-war between China and the US offers plenty of news material for the media of both sides to hype up. But neither of the two nations are going to let these discrepancies harm their improving bilateral relations.

If Japan wants to engage in a time-consuming confrontation with China, it has to depend on itself. The US-Japan alliance serves only for the benefit of the US. Japan is just a lackey of Uncle Sam, who will not become a blood brother with it.

Japan should know that China actually pays little attention to Obama's visit, and we are not jealous because Obama won't visit China this time.

Peace and stability are what East Asia should value the most, and China is gaining the upper hand in safeguarding them.

This is also why China is becoming more confident than before. Confidence makes Chinese people feel much less threatened by Japan although the Abe administration keeps making trouble.

In fact, China is also prepared to brace for more challenges from the US. It is becoming less of a concern and a threat in the minds of confident Chinese people.
