Venezuela helped install four mobile seismic stations in Nicaragua after two moderately powerful earthquakes struck Nicaragua on April 10th and April 11th respectively, a Venezuelan official said Tuesday.

"Nicaragua asked for our help and we gave it immediately," said Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Manuel Fernandez at the headquarters of the seismological research center in El Llanito in the north central state of Miranda.

Venezuela contributed expertise and technological know-how to help Nicaragua deal with quakes, he added.

The stations were deployed at Nicaragua's Apoyeque Volcano, in the city of Sandino, the Hueque Peninsula and on the outskirts of Managua, said Venezuelan seismologist Miguel Palma, who helped install the mobile units.

They will help Nicaraguan authorities to identify the precise location of earthquakes with similar magnitude to those of the recent two earthquakes, which measured 6.2 and 6.6 respectively, Fernandez said. The earthquakes caused two deaths and dozens of injuries.

Fernandez said experts from Cuba, Mexico and Japan also took part in the project.
