The Peking Opera Theater of Beijing will complete a tour encompassing 1,000 commercial performances across the country in five years as a tribute event for the theater's 40th anniversary in 2019, according to an agreement reached on Tuesday by the theater and China International Venue Ally, a platform for organizing performances in China. Li Enjie, president of the Peking Opera Theater of Beijing, said that cooperation will benefit both parties.
"With this new platform, we can tour many new cities that the Peking Opera couldn't reach before. We hope to perform a total of 100 traditional or newly created operas," Li said, adding that this tour will be a historical milestone for Peking Opera.
Ke Chaoping, chairman of China International Venue Ally, said that collaborating with theaters is an effective way to lower ticket prices, which have been criticized for being far beyond what an average person in China is willing to pay.
