Indian army chief expresses willingness to expand coordination, exchanges with Chinese military

Indian Army Chief General Bikram Singh has expressed his willingness to expand coordination and exchanges with China's People's Liberation Army to maintain peace and tranquillity in the border regions of the two countries, said official sources with the Chinese Embassy Wednesday.

During a meeting Tuesday with Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of General Staff of the People's Liberation Army of China here, Bikram, who is also chair of the committee of chiefs of staff of the Indian armed forces, said the two armed forces are faced with new opportunities of developing relations during the "Year of Exchanges" between India and China.

This would push forward the development of relations between the two armed forces and help contribute to the regional peace and stability, said Bikram.

Qi said that as two biggest developing countries in the world, China and India can not only bring benefits to their own people but also make important contribution to regional and world peace, stability and development by strengthening cooperation.

He expressed his hope that the two armed forces could follow the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, seriously implement China India Border Cooperation Agreement and push the relations between the two armed forces to a higher stage through deepening exchange and cooperation in various fields.

Qi also said China is ready to work with India to strengthen control of and properly deal with differences and disputes to guarantee peace and tranquillity of the border regions, in order to create a good environment conducive to the common development of the two countries.
