Embarrassed husband beats male gynecologist

A husband and two other men who attacked a male gynecologist for examining his wife Monday, saying his presence made him "uncomfortable," have been detained in Shuyang county, Jiangsu Province.

Liu Yongsheng, the 24-year-old gynecologist, is currently being treated for a skull fracture, hearing loss and other serious injuries.

According to reports, Liu was performing a routine checkup of a woman who had recently underwent a cesarean section during his regular rounds at the hospital.

The husband, surnamed Zhang, claimed he felt "extremely uncomfortable" as soon as Liu appeared in the doorway.

Two hours later, Zhang, a family member and friend  severely beat Liu, leaving him unconscious.

The assault provoked a wave of criticism online, with most Net users rallying behind the injured doctor.

"This is literally the behavior of downright thugs," said Wenrunnanfeng.

"On no account should one beat others, especially doctors," said Shazhouguhong, "They  save lives."

"What's wrong with a male gynecologist?" asked Xiaoyao6510. "The truth is most of the best gynecologists are men!"

While others acknowledged  that a male gynecologist could cause discomfort on some level, they were adamantly against the violent act.
