The city's discipline inspection commission announced five cases in which Communist Party of China (CPC) officials violated the eight rules made by the country's top ruling body to improve CPC members' working style, the commission said Wednesday.

The eight rules were adopted by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on December 4, 2012, to strengthen ties between officials and the public by improving officials' working styles in eight aspects, including rejecting extravagance and reducing bureaucratic visits and meetings.

The commission gave a severe inner-Party warning to Gu Xiaozhong, the former general manager of Songjiang Industrial Zone Gas Co Ltd. It dismissed Gu from the position for spending company money on an overseas trip for several employees, which Gu claimed was for research.

CPC members who receive inner-Party warnings lose their chance for promotion for one year.

The commission gave an inner-Party warning to Zhao Zhiping, principal of Shanghai Caoyang No.9 High School, for spending school money to send employees on trips to other provinces. The commission gave an administrative demerit to Qiu Xihua, manager of Shanghai Jingkang Machinery Repair Co Ltd, and dismissed Qiu from the post for spending the company's money on employee leisure activities.

A CPC member who receives an administrative warning or demerit cannot be promoted while the punishment is in effect.

The commission gave an inner-Party warning and administrative demerit to Zhang Guoqiang, manager of the Baoshan district branch of Shanghai Bashi Bus Repair Co Ltd, and dismissed Zhang from his position for keeping a concealed account to cover business treatment and employees' welfare expenses.
