"The river water is as black as ink. I could dip a brush in the water and write calligraphy."

Residents living near the Zhugang River near Jiangchuan Road in Minhang district complained to the Shanghai Morning Post that the river water turned black half a month ago. The foul smell is so disgusting that the residents cannot open their windows. When contacted by the media, the local water authority said it is dredging the river, which has made the water muddy. The authority said the work will be finished in June, and asked for residents to be understanding.
