At Superbrands' 20th anniversary party held recently in Beijing and Shanghai, PepsiCo's Lay's and Quaker brands were both selected as "Superbrands China 2014," with Lay's getting this honor for the second consecutive year. With a total of six final brands selected by Superbrands, PepsiCo managed quite an accomplishment by having two of its brands in the winners' circle.

Superbrands is the world's largest independent institution of brand evaluation and research. It is one of the largest brand research programs of its kind in China. The final awards list is strictly verified by the Superbrands judging committee and based on professional research on Chinese consumers carried out by Superbrands' research partner Ipsos.

This year's survey covered 200 Chinese cities and 130 product categories, including fast-moving consumer goods, consumption services, durable goods, electronic products, etc. Due to its strict selection criteria, less than 1 percent of the brands nominated by Chinese consumers meet Superbrands' global verification standards.

PepsiCo launched its food operations in China in 1993 with the introduction of Lay's brand. For 20 years, Lay's has become the most favored salty snack enjoyed by millions of Chinese consumers as it has continuously researched and launched China-specific potato chips.

Since its entry to China in 1996, Quaker has developed many products tailored to local palates based upon local demand.
