Moscow Thursday blamed the US State Department for presenting false evidences of alleged participation of Russian troops in hostilities in eastern Ukraine.

The US voiced hollow and non-supported accusations against Russia, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"(The US) uses absurd evidence that self-defense squads (in eastern Ukraine) are armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles and communicate in Russian, while Ukraine armed forces and police are armed with them too and Russian is a native tongue for the majority of population in south-east regions (of Ukraine)," the ministry said.

It also mentioned a photograph of an unidentified man which was used by the US State Department as evidence that Russian troops have been deployed in Ukraine. The ministry pointed out that at one picture that man's beard is red while it is black at the other photograph.

"It looks like the US is not confused with those misrepresentations," the ministry said.

On Tuesday, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said Russian troops conducted drills in areas bordering Ukraine.

Still, he noted, their scale did not require the invitation of foreign monitors and they don't exceed the limits set by the Vienna document of 2011 on confidence and security-building measures.

Russia urged the US to stop proofless accusations with the only aim to distort situation in Crimea, without presenting a single piece of evidence that any human rights violations took place there.

Crimea integrated into Russia on March 18 following a popular referendum was not recognized by Kiev and Western capitals.
